About the Different Ribbons

Silk Ribbons

.
There is an amazing collection of ribbons in our range and these are available from our website www.dicraft.com.  Pure silk and sheer organza ribbon are, without a doubt, the best ribbons to use if you wish to create a true reflection of nature’s colours They are soft and pliable ribbons and the hand painted, variegated or multi coloured varieties are the best. Our washable and colourfast range of ribbons is designed especially for embroidery and the subtle changes in shade or colour will help to create a more realistic picture consistent with flowers and leaves as they are found in nature. For details of your nearest stockist, you are welcome to contact us

You will find that our designs present a firmer surface due to the process we use to make the cloth colour fast. This firmer surface is an advantage as you will not have a problem with your work puckering out of shape as you stitch. A point to remember though, the minute you are having a problem pulling thread or ribbon through the fabric, change to a thicker needle. The correct thickness of a needle is vital to prevent the threads and ribbons from being harmed from too small a hole in the fabric.

About needles

Note: the lower the number of the needle, the larger it is.
1. In a mixed pack of needles, for example, the chenille 18/24 pack, the chenille size 18 is thicker than the 24, which is the finest needle in the pack.
2. The mixed pack of 5/10 crewel/embroidery needles, the size 5 is the largest and the size 10 is the finest needle in the pack.
.
-For 1 or 2 strands of silk and cotton thread use the size 8 or 9 crewel/embroidery needle.
-For beading use the size 10 Crewel, No.9 straw/milliners or a fine beading needle.
-For Perlé thread No.8 use the size 22 or 24 chenille needle, or size 3 straw needle.
-For the 6 and 7mm ribbon use the size 18 or 20 chenille needle.
-For the 4mm ribbon use the size 20 or 22 chenille needle
-For the 2 and 3mm ribbon use the size 22 or 24 chenille needle
-For the 13 ribbon use the size 16 chenille needle
