Blog > Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork from New Zealand

Hi good morning, Stitching World! I want to show you a lovely sampler by Lilani Chinivasagam from Auckland, New Zealand. It’s the popular RES design (that is suitable for the complete beginner to silk ribbon embroidery and stumpwork) from one of my books and I really love Lilani’s style and the way she constructed the flowers.

.
You have a lovely talent, Lilani!
I asked her to write a little about herself and her embroidery journey and Lilani replied:

“I am originally from Sri Lanka and now living in New Zealand. I went to many embroidery classes with friends where we were taught different embroidery techniques. It was only a few years later when I enrolled in a Ribbon Embroidery class that I was drawn to this style of embroidery, and I really enjoy this very much.

I received the Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork book as a gift from my sister and I loved the flower sampler projects in it. So, I purchased the RES embroidery kit from the Dicraft website where I also came across all the beautiful Ribbon Embroidery projects and kits. I now attend a fortnightly embroidery group held at ‘The Makers Table’ in Auckland, run by Liz Crossland - a very passionate and creative stitcher who is also from South Africa. I could not have completed this project without her help.

It has been a pleasure to work on this lovely Flower Sampler, while learning many new stitches and techniques along the way. Thank you, for all the beautiful work and to the team at Dicraft.

Kind Regards

Lilani, Auckland, New Zealand”

Thank you so much for sharing your talent with all of us Lilani and may you go from strength to strength!

Have a lovely week everyone and please send me pictures of your work, I love seeing your embroidery!
Until next time
Love
Di
