August 2011

Greetings to you from a warm and sunny Newlands in Cape Town.
I am pleased to give you good news today!

The winners of the International Silk Ribbon Embroidery Competition have been chosen by the seven judges of this competition. The judges were from Australia, USA and South Africa and they had a difficult time choosing from the 196 photographs that were sent to them on a CD.

Every file and photograph was coded. Not one of the judges knew what country the entry was from, or who had embroidered it. The judging was therefore impartial and based solely on merit.

It has been an exciting event and I thank every embroiderer who participated in this competition. I will be showcasing each entry over the next few months for you to see just how magnificent they are. We will all learn from each other this way.

For those of you who did not win a prize, I want you to know that you did so well — this was a very tight competition with entries from as far afield as Russia, Australia, America, England, Turkey, Canada, Italy, Norway and South Africa. All of you have so much talent. A big round of applause to every one of you who entered — I salute you for the passion and the love that you have shown for this craft….and a big thank you to the seven judges for their time and their dedication too!
