Blog > An orange tree

Hello! Hope you had a good weekend :)   I have a lovely cushion to show you by Susan Stelly-Adams from Port Saint Lucie, Florida, USA.    Susan has been needle-crafting for over 30 years, starting out with embroidery and cross-stitching. It has only been in the past 2 years that she started doing stumpwork.      Click on the image to enlarge         Susan wrote: " The gift shoppe owner (where my work is consigned) has a friend that is moving away from the State of Florida. The owner wants to give her friend something to remember our great State and she asked me to make a pillow with an orange tree on it. The trunk is made from different sizes of yarn-wrapped wire that is then couched in place. I embroidered some background leaves and then spent the next day  making the dozen or so wired leaves. The orange blossom flowers were added next. The beads were part of my collection but I did not have enough so i covered some smaller wooden beads with orange varigated floss. The wired leaves and beads were attached and then I made the pillow. I had to be so careful turning it right side out and had to spend a few minutes reshaping the trunk a bit before adding the pillow form. But I do love how it turned out and since you had recently posted the orange tree in a basket I thought I would send to you my version. Enjoy!!"   Thank you Susan - I love your orange tree    Hope you all have a good Monday. Tomorrow I will show you some gorgeous designs by a master embroiderer:  Irina Podolyak from Moscow you are welcome to Subscribe to Di van Niekerk and receive e-mail updates as soon as I post new pictures.     Love   Di
