*¨*•♫♪ღ Today I have some beautiful pieces to share with you from a talented designer and embroiderer living in Chicago. Have a look. Don’t you think her creations are spectacular?I heard about Andrea Birkan when Rosemary, my sister-in-law, showed me a lovely book that Andrea is featured in and then she showed me the most amazing photographs of her work. I think that she is exceptionally talented and I love her creations. Have a look…Don't you love the way Andrea made the flowers and leaves?I emailed Andrea to ask her to tell me more about herself and this is what she wrote:My name is Andrea Birkan and I’m an ex-South African now living in Chicago. I have always enjoyed hand embroidery and sewing my own clothes. Over twenty years ago, while visiting family in Cape Town, I stumbled into Di van Niekerk’s shop. I could not leave without buying a few of her wonderful canvasses and all the ribbons to embroider them. They are now framed and hanging in my house as beautiful artwork. I then decided to incorporate silk embroidery into other clothes I was making which has given my garments that extra element. Silk embroidery is so addictive that I find myself adding it almost all my garments, including some that were featured in a book released by Julie Starr and Sarah Gunn called “A Stylish Guide to Classic Sewing.” I also started my own blog - sewbusy.weebly.com where I post some of the garments I’ve made.Love ♥and... don't you love these colours?Thank you, Andrea, for sharing your talent with the embroidery world. Looking forward to seeing more creations from you!Till next time, happy stitching everybody!
